Team Secret Ludwig “Zai” Wahlberg called potential competitors of Team Secret on ESL One Germany in 2020 on Dota 2. In an interview with ESL, he pointed to the “dark horses” from the bottom of the grid. In addition, he commented on the match against Nigma and explained why his team consistently shows high results.
Team Secret beat Nigma in the first round of the Upper Playoff Bracket with a score of 2:1. According to Zai, his team lost on the first map because they were not ready for the opponent.
“Nigma is very unstable at times. In a match against us, this team was suddenly ready to give us a fight. I think the enemy managed to surprise us, so I had to adjust on the next maps. It was a difficult match, we did not prepare well for it. “
Wahlberg noted that Nigma is not the only one to fight Team Secret at this tournament. In his opinion, NAVI can also turn out to be a dangerous rival, like some other teams, including those from the lower bracket.
“I would say that Nigma is usually our toughest opponent. The players of this team understand quite well how to play against us. If we talk about other teams, we still need to look at the lineups from the lower bracket. But in general I would say that NAVI looks very strong as a team. And compositions like mudgolems and ViKin.gg can suddenly go off. We’ll see what happens next, but I’m sure there are still a few dark horses at this tournament.”
Zai said that one of the reasons for Team Secret’s successful performances could be the position of the team at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. The team did not have to play with stand-ins like many other squads.
“I don’t know if there is any secret at all. What sets us apart from other teams is at least the fact that we did not face any problems in the context of the coronavirus pandemic. We were in Europe, none of our players had to miss matches. So we were ready to play from the very beginning of this strange season. I think in the end this stability helped us, while others could not play with the full squad.”
