Team Liquid are well-known for being one of the best Dota 2 teams to ever grace the game, winning The International 2017 and a host of other major events too. With their recent form though, things needed to change and now one of their players has left the current roster.
Lasse ‘MATUMBAMAN’ Urpalainen has been with Team Liquid since 2015 and has helped the famous squad to many Dota 2 achievements including a 2017 claim to the Aegis of Champions. Now, after the squad have had tough times in the current Dota 2 Pro Circuit season, the team have decided to release Matu from the roster. Matu won’t be leaving the squad completely, but instead be moving to the bench – but with the EPICENTER Major coming up in 10 days, Liquid will be searching for a replacement.
EPICENTER has always been a high point for Team Liquid in recent years – but going into it weaker than before is going to be a tall task. The removal of Matu also means that Liquid will be losing 20% of their current DPC point total – sitting at 2820 they will be at 2256 after the deduction, which is still enough to secure their spot for TI9.
Team Liquid now begin their search for a new position 1 or 2 player and with such a short time until the Major kicks off, it will be a tough task and the player will have big boots to fill. It is going to be interesting to see how the TI7 victors will fare when missing such a massive piece of their legendary puzzle.
