The second elimination series of the day at MDL Disneyland® would see the Minor winners, Ninjas in Pyjamas, taking on TI8 runners up, PSG.LGD. While both teams are confirmed to be at TI9, the series was set to definitely be one of epic proportions.
Game one was set to be amazing as soon as the pick/ban phase was over with NiP picking up the Meepo that they excelled with during the Minor and LGD grabbing a Faceless Void final pick. The NiP lineup went in looking extremely strong, with Marcus ‘Ace’ Hoelgaard’s Meepo making all the right moves around the map to secure the European squad and early lead. But as the game went later, the LGD lineup begun to wrestle control away from NiP – up until the timing of the third Roshan. The turnaround from NiP came swiftly and NiP took to the enemy base and destroyed the ancient.
Game two was an entirely different game which the Chinese squad used to tie up the series. From the beginning, LGD took a lead and by the end it was a massive 42k net worth in their favour as they clinically took NiP out the game. Wang ‘Ame’ Chunyu’s Morphling was at the forefront of their win with an 11-0 performance.
The final game had a fairly slow pace as neither team was wanting to make an error that would cause them to be eliminated – even the net worth and win probability remained even until near 30-minutes. This was when the TI runners up found their timing to take a great fight and push up onto the high ground. That one moment seemed to change the course of the game and LGD found another great fight a moment later to secure Roshan and rip through their opponents.
With that, PSG.LGD managed to take the 2-1 victory as they march forward in the lower bracket where they will face Team Liquid later today. Unfortunately for NiP, their amazing run from Minor victory to now has come to an end – but they had proved themselves and will be heading to TI9.
Next up we head to the upper bracket finals where Team Secret take on Evil Geniuses.
