Today, Virtus.pro are far and a way the best CIS team in Dota 2 and one of the top in the world. Even though the "bears" had a subpar top 6 exit at The International 2018, they won more Major tournaments than anybody last year. In the post-TI shuffle, they only parted ways with coach Ivan "ArtStyle" Antonovas the rest of the family stayed together, strong.
But it wasn't always like that, as Roman "RAMZES666" Kushnarev remembers. In an interview with VP's own Maria "Mrs. Marple" Yermolina, the carry shared some dark stories from the team's past, going back to the Kiev Major, and also took a jab at team Odium.
On struggles and near disbandment
When ArtStyle came to team, we were on the edge of disbanding (pre Kiev Major); no one knew about it. It was after we were DDoSed at the DAC qualifiers and lost. We wanted to qualify, we had some bad results before them. And we only had The Kiev Major as the last tournament, which for which we were preparing for a month. When ArtStyle joined, he did some work. We only placed second at the Major because of him.
[...] Outside of this VP squad he is the best teammate I've ever had. Even when he was standing in (for Solo at The Summit and MDL Macau), he hadn't played for two years and still played position 4 better then Lil.
On team Odium
In Odium, we have Ghostik and we have CeMaTheSlayeR. [Ghostik has since parted ways with Odium — Ed.] I was with them in TeamSpeak and I don't how to say this. Maybe it's hipocrisy: a guy doesn't like his team leader and still joins the team. I won't say this about CeMa, rather about Ghostik. [...] And one more thing about Ghostik: when he was asked what player would he give a lifetime ban, he said "V-Tune" — their new carry player — and he still plays with him in one team. I would say this is a fucking joke. I wouldn't play with the player I hate the most even for really big money.
On how VP's players changed with the years
Some people said I changed a lot. Maybe I grew taller, maybe I got fat. I don't know, I can't say anything about myself. [...]
Everyone changed in some ways. Maybe Solo didn't. No[o]ne became more social, now he doesn't live in his mom's basement playing Dota. 9pasha got married, which I personaly think is a big change. RodjER's hookah has now gotten much better.
