With The International 9 just a few hours away, Valve finally announced the groups and schedule for the group stage.
The group stage will undergo a round-robin format with each match are played on a best of two. The groups will be divided into two groups with nine teams each. The top four teams of each group will proceed to the main event’s upper bracket while the bottom team from each group will go home and the remaining teams will fill the lower bracket.
For Group A, we have the revenge of Matumbaman’s Chaos Esports against Team Liquid together with underdogs Alliance, EU and SEA powerhouse Team Secret and Mineski, Chinese titans Keen and LGD, Ex-Forward Newbee, and Pinoy favorites TNC.
For Group B, TI8 champs OG will face DPC leaders EG, VG, and NiP along with Royal Never Give Up from China, another Chinese powerhouse, VG; the new Fnatic stack; CIS qualified NaVi, and ex-Anvorgeza Infamous.
Unlike any tournaments, there is no definite Group of Death as both groups are equally stacked in terms of performance this year.
For the schedule, (http://www.dota2.com/international/schedule/), the group stage will happen from August 15 to 18, while the Main Event will happen on August 20 to 25.
As of this writing, the prize pool for this year is now close to 33 Million Dollars, and 46.6% of it will go to the this year’s champion amounting to at least 14 Million USD, while the 17th and 18th place will get 0.25% of the current prize pool that totals to at least 80K USD.
