FURIA have announced that they will field their coach, Nicholas "guerri" Nogueira, in their MDL Season 31 Finals match against Singularity on Saturday, replacing Rinaldo "ableJ" Moda Junior due to "personal reasons".
The team did not reveal whether the player would return to play in the ESEA Global Challenge, although a report by Dexerto indicates that the player is at risk of missing the event due to visa issues.
The winner of the matchup will earn a spot in ESL Pro League Season 10, while the loser will be forced to play the relegation stage alongside INTZ, Lazarus, Envy, and ATK.
guerri will play for FURIA against Singularity in ableJ’s place
A solid start to the year saw FURIA burst onto the international scene as they earned a 3rd-4th place finish at DreamHack Masters Dallas, which they followed up by achieving repeat victories over Astralis and a series win over North to end the ECS Season 7 Finals in second place.
FURIA’s recent results took a downturn as a disappointing 3rd-4th exit at Moche XL and a lacklustre 9th-12th elimination at ESL One Cologne saw them slide down the standings from fifth to eighth, with the team’s next hopes being of qualification for the ESL Pro League.
Immediately after their Global Challenge appearance, FURIA will head to Berlin for the Americas Minor, with their initial matchup pitting them against their countrymen from INTZ.
Update: When contacted by HLTV.org, guerri confirmed that he would play for the team in both the NA MDL Finals and ESEA Global Challenge Season 31.
