With the end of the DPC just around the corner, we will now witness the very last minor of the season at Starladder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 2 that will be held in Kiev, Ukraine from June 12 to 16. The eight participating teams will battle it out for the final two slots at Epicenter Major this late June.
Before the Minor begins, groups have already been set and let us take a look at how each group will fight their way to Russia for Epicenter.
Group A: Fighting for direct invites
In group A, we have DPC rank 12 Ehome consisting of two of the members of the TI 6 champs, Wings Gaming. In this group they will face Alliance who is currently rank 15 in the DPC and will also play against Lil and Cooman’s new team- Winstrike. The last contender in Group A are from South America, Team Anvorgesa who will debut their new roster this tournament.
From the schedules (https://starladder.com/en/news/viewer-s-guide-for-starladder-imbatv-dota-2-minor) it looks like Team Anvorgesa must survive Ehome if they want to extend their run in the Minor, while the fight between Alliance and Winstrike will be a closer one due to both teams having vast experience. Whose chemistry will be stronger?
If either Ehome or Alliance takes a slot for Epicenter, then they will have a chance to score a direct invite for this year’s International.
Group B: the group of death
Even if Ninjas in Pyjamas are currently rank 8 in the DPC, they are not showing any signs of complacency as they are the top contenders in this tournament, but they will face Mineski (rank 16), Complexity (rank 21) and Sylar’s team, Team Sirius.
In the Minor’s second day, NiP must prove their DPC placing by taking down Team Sirius, while Mineski and Complexity must beat the other team in order to gain the momentum needed to take a slot.
Will NiP dominate the tournament to get a slot for Epicenter? Or will the Chinese, SEA, and NA qualified teams will take it away from them?
For the Group Stage, the teams will play in a GSL format with Bo3 series, with each group’s top two teams will proceed to the playoffs, while the bottom two of each group will say goodbye to their chance to qualify for the final major of the season.
After the group stage, teams will battle in the playoffs in a double-elimination format with Bo3, except the Grand Finals where the remaining two teams will decide the first place in a Bo5 format.
The first and second place will get tickets for the Epicenter Major plus 120 and 100 DPC points as well as $125K and $70K USD, respectively. Meanwhile, the third place will get $35K and 90 DPC points. Lastly, the fourth place will go home with $25K and 70 DPC points.
