The final day of group stage action was already well underway at MDL Disneyland® Paris and Group A and B were already decided – but Group C and D still required a few series to determine who join the upper bracket and who would fall to the lower bracket.
The fall of Southeast Asia into the Lower Bracket
Group C kicked off with the loser’s match which would see Mineski taking on paiN Gaming. While the South Americans put up an extremely valiant fight in both games, they unfortunately would go down and enter the lower bracket of the playoffs.
This set Mineski up against PSG.LGD as the two would fight for the second upper bracket spot for the group – but the teams had met yesterday and the Southeast Asians would be hoping to change that result. It seemed that Mineski had found a way to take the first game from LGD as the opening 25-minutes went their way. But the TI8-runners up had different plans and over the next 20-minute period they took complete control of the game and claimed the victory. Game two was much the same except this time PSG.LGD never really seemed like they would lose as they destroyed the Mineski Meepo pick and took a 2-0 win.
With that, Mineski head to the lower bracket of the MDL Disneyland® Paris Major while PSG.LGD join Vici Gaming at the top of Group C and enter the upper bracket of the playoffs.
OG on the rise
Group D had a massive upset in the loser’s match which saw compLexity Gaming taking on Fnatic. Fnatic were only a few Dota 2 Pro Circuit points short of qualification for The International 2019 and an upper bracket showing could have been exactly what they needed to get there – but coL was not to be underestimated as they took a 2-1 win and dropped Fnatic into the lower bracket.
coL now had another difficult task ahead of them, fighting against OG. The opening game was no contest as OG got ahead and stayed ahead throughout the little-over-30-minute game. Anathan ‘ana’ Pham’s Anti-Mage was completely unkillable as he went 10-0-9 through the game. Things did not get any better for coL and while they put up a decent fight, the next game was over in under half an hour.
The victory will see OG head into the upper bracket of the playoffs while compLexity Gaming fall into the lower bracket.
The playoffs are now set, with all four European challengers at MDL Disneyland® Paris in the upper bracket; OG, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Team Secret, Team Liquid. Tomorrow we will see the first teams eliminated from the tournament as the playoffs kick off and below you can see the bracket for the rest of the event.
